GIA’s 7th Annual Jewellery Design Competition Honors Emerging Talent

Tucson, AZ – In a celebration of burgeoning talent in jewellery design, the Gemmological Institute of America (GIA) recently bestowed the prestigious Gianmaria Buccellati Foundation Award for Excellence in Jewellery Design upon Suhan Wang, an alumna of the GIA school in Taipei. The seventh edition of this esteemed award, established in partnership with the Gianmaria Buccellati Foundation in 2018, was unveiled during the annual GIA Alumni Collective gathering.

Larry French, Chief Officer for North American Strategies at the foundation, expressed his congratulations to Ms. Suhan Wang and extended gratitude to all participants whose creative prowess adorned this year’s competition. French commended the dedicated GIA design instructors for their invaluable guidance in nurturing the students’ artistic journey, echoing the sentiment that jewellery design holds a profound significance, as envisioned by Gianmaria Buccellati, the foundation’s founder.

The panel of judges for this year’s competition comprised esteemed figures from the jewellery industry: Nanz Aalund, a jeweller, goldsmith, and educator; Cathy Calhoun, owner of Calhoun Jewellers; Victoria Gomelsky, Editor-in-Chief of JCK; Charles Lewton-Brain, a jewellery artist and co-founder of the Ganoksin Project; Remy Rotenier, a renowned fine jewellery designer and design instructor; and Shelly Sergent, Collections Manager of Somewhere In the Rainbow Gemstone and Jewellery Collection.
