The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar and the All Pakistan Commercial Exporters Association (APCEA) recently inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The primary aim of this MoU is to bolster the Gems & Minerals trade and export via APCEA and to leverage academic expertise and commercialization of specialized services through UET, Peshawar. This collaboration is intended to contribute to the economic development of Pakistan and pursue mutual interests in seeking solutions through Research and Development (R&D).
Secretary Industries Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, expressed his views on the significance of this MoU, stating that it will enable the government to engage with the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) to establish regulations and policies ensuring the certification of precious gemstones for export. Mr. Minhajud Din, Chairman of APCEA, extended his gratitude to the university and the business community for their cooperation and interest in fostering research and development alongside UET Peshawar.
Dr. Khan Muhammad, Director of the Center of Gems and Jewellery at UET Peshawar, highlighted the center’s ongoing collaboration with the Gemological Institute of Thailand and the National Productivity Organization (NPO) to procure advanced equipment for establishing an internationally recognized National Level Gemstone Lab. This lab aims to provide gem cutting and polishing services of the highest standard.
Additionally, as part of the MoU, an online trading studio will be established, facilitating online gemstone trading and marketing to international markets. Prof Dr. Qaisar Ali, the Vice-Chancellor of UET Peshawar, commended the collaborative efforts and assured full cooperation with the government and the business community in this endeavor.
