The 45.07-carat fancy vivid yellow diamond was the highlight of the Phillips New York Jewels Auction. It was expected to sell for between $2.8 million and $3.5 million last Wednesday, June 12. However, the square emerald-cut VS1-clarity gemstone was pulled from the sale without any explanation.
This incident follows a similar case last month when the celebrated 101.29-carat Allnatt yellow diamond, estimated at $6.2 million to $7.2 million, was withdrawn from Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels sale in Geneva. Sotheby’s did not mention the Allnatt diamond in its post-auction report but later confirmed that the seller had withdrawn it.
Phillips listed the 45.07-carat yellow diamond as unsold in its online results but provided no further details.
Additionally, two other fancy color diamonds failed to sell. These included a cushion modified brilliant-cut, 4.01-carat, fancy intense green diamond estimated at $300,000 to $350,000, and a pear brilliant-cut, 3.07-carat, light-blue, VS2-clarity diamond ring by Cartier, estimated at $200,000 to $300,000.
