The Fancy Color Diamond Index recorded a slight decline in prices over the three months ending September 30, falling by 0.5 percent. This follows a 0.7 percent decrease in the second quarter, marking the index’s first drop in nearly four years.
Launched in 2005, the Fancy Color Diamond Index tracks pricing data across all sizes and intensities of fancy color diamonds. Since its inception, the index has seen an increase of over 200 percent.
According to the New York-based Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF), the year-over-year trend indicates a cumulative decrease of 1.0 percent as of January 10. The FCRF commented that the data reflects a stable market with minor fluctuations. Despite some downward trends, the index demonstrates the ongoing resilience of the fancy color diamond market.
Among the different categories, yellow diamonds experienced the largest drop, declining by 1.6 percent compared to the previous quarter. Blue diamonds decreased by 0.7 percent, while pink diamonds fell by 0.1 percent. The 1-carat fancy intense yellows saw the most significant decline, with a drop of 3.8 percent. In contrast, the 3-carat fancy vivid pink category performed well, increasing by 2.0 percent.
Oz Mashiach, an FCRF Data Supplier, stated that despite the declines this quarter, the fancy color diamond market remains resilient. He noted that the slight decreases, particularly in yellow diamonds, reflect broader economic uncertainties. However, the overall stability of the market indicates steady demand.
Mashiach added, “It’s encouraging to see that categories like vivid pinks continue to perform well, even in a challenging economic climate.”
