Over 300 Workers Strike at Zimbabwe’s Murowa Diamond Mine Over Unpaid Wages

by Madonna

More than 300 workers at Zimbabwe’s RZM Murowa diamond mine have gone on strike after not receiving any pay for two months, according to local reports.

The Zimbabwe Diamond and Allied Mineral Workers Union (ZDAMWU) claims that despite the mine operating at full capacity, workers have not been compensated or provided with benefits.

Workers have submitted formal requests demanding full payment of their overdue salaries and bonuses, as well as proper personal protective equipment, according to the ZimLive news platform.

ZDAMWU stated, “Despite the mine operating at full capacity, this has not led to the payment of wages or other benefits for the employees.”

The mine began full-scale production in 2004, and RioZim assumed management in 2015, implementing a strategic overhaul to improve operations and increase capacity.
