The Royal Palace in Brussels was the setting for the Belgian royal family’s traditional Christmas concert on December 18, 2024. King Philippe and Queen Mathilde were joined by their daughters, the Duchess of Brabant, Princess Elisabeth, and Princess Eleonore. This year’s concert marked a special occasion, as Princess Elisabeth returned home on break from her studies at Harvard to attend, while her brothers, Prince Gabriel and Prince Emmanuel, were absent due to their respective commitments.
More than 500 guests gathered in the grand nineteenth-century throne room for the festive event, a room adorned with stunning chandeliers and parquet floors, along with sculptural works by famed French artist Auguste Rodin.
The royal ladies turned heads with their elegant gala attire. Queen Mathilde and Princess Elisabeth wore dresses from the Belgian label Natan, with Elisabeth borrowing her gown from her mother’s wardrobe. Princess Eleonore wore a shimmering creation by Ralph Lauren. Queen Mathilde, who is known for her love of statement earrings, wore a pair of diamond tassel earrings from her personal collection, alongside her wedding ring and a diamond and tanzanite ring. She opted not to wear her usual bracelets or watch.
Princess Elisabeth’s jewelry also made a striking statement. In addition to her dazzling earrings, she wore an heirloom diamond and ruby bracelet that has been passed down through generations. Originally worn by her great-aunt, Queen Fabiola, during a 1963 Belgian state visit to Britain, the bracelet has since been worn by Queen Mathilde on several occasions, including the 2016 state visit to Jordan.
The youngest royal, Princess Eleonore, added her own touch of sparkle with both her dress and a pair of gem-set earrings, further solidifying her growing presence in royal jewelry circles.
The evening highlighted not only the royal family’s festive spirit but also the enduring legacy of royal jewels that continue to shine through the generations.
