Jewellers, from emerging brands to the prestigious houses of Paris’s Place Vendôme, are redefining cufflinks with a bold, artistic flair. This trend is making waves in the world of high jewellery, a sector known for its exclusive, handcrafted, and one-of-a-kind pieces. By blending elements of fashion and tailoring, bejewelled cufflinks are part of a growing movement to make high jewellery more versatile, wearable, and appealing to both men and women.
In 2022, Dior made a striking move by introducing cufflinks and men’s brooches—traditionally seen as fashion accessories—into its high jewellery collection, Galons. Designed by artistic director Victoire de Castellane, the cufflinks feature asymmetrical arrangements of fancy-cut diamonds, inspired by decorative ribbons. This innovative design marked a fresh direction for the brand, merging high jewellery with masculine elegance.
Boucheron’s recent Power of Couture collection takes inspiration from royal ceremonial attire, showcasing bejewelled bows, epaulettes, and rock-crystal buttons. These diamond-studded buttons, attached with old-fashioned spiral fasteners, can be worn on cuffs, jacket sleeves, collars, or even woven into hair. This versatility highlights the collection’s blend of tradition and modernity.
De Beers has also embraced the trend with its Forces of Nature high jewellery collection. The collection includes cufflinks shaped like a buffalo, adorned with rough and polished white and brown diamonds totaling 3.34 carats. Another standout design, the Fortitude cufflinks, pairs matte titanium with shield-shaped diamonds of nearly two carats, complemented by five round brilliant diamonds on the underside. According to De Beers, both designs have been popular among male clients, who appreciate their modern aesthetic, creative diamond cuts, animal symbolism, and comfortable wearability despite their substantial size.
This shift towards bejewelled cufflinks reflects a broader effort to make high jewellery more accessible and adaptable. By combining luxury with practicality, jewellers are appealing to a wider audience, proving that high jewellery can be both exquisite and everyday.
