The diamond bracelet that Michael Jackson gave to his close friend Elizabeth Taylor is about to go to auction, giving the public the chance to own a piece of Hollywood history. A symbol of the enduring friendship between the two icons, the bracelet will be sold at British auction house Woolley & Wallis’s High Jewellery sale on January 30.
The stunning piece features 27 brilliant-cut yellow diamonds, the largest weighing 3.38 carats. It is estimated to fetch between $61,000 and $86,000 (£50,000 and £70,000). It is worth noting that the bracelet previously sold at Christie’s in 2011 for $182,500.
Marielle Whiting, jewellery specialist at Woolley & Wallis, expressed her excitement about the sale. “We are delighted to offer this beautiful and wearable diamond bracelet at Salisbury. “Its legendary provenance makes it a truly special piece that is destined to be treasured for generations,” she said.
Michael Jackson and Elizabeth Taylor had a deep and well-documented friendship that not only captivated the public but also brought comfort to both stars, who often felt lonely due to fame. Their bond was so strong that Jackson named Taylor godmother to his daughter Paris.
Jackson was known for his lavish gift-giving, and Taylor was often the recipient of his generosity. Among the many pieces of jewellery he gifted her was a Masoni monkey necklace with diamonds, emeralds and rubies, currently on display at M.S. Rau in New Orleans.
Looking back on her jewellery collection, Taylor once said, “I feel like I am just a custodian of the jewels. When I die and they go up for auction, I want the people who buy them to give them a really good home.”
