The Jewelry Symposium (TJS) will tackle the growing issue of skilled labor shortages in the jewelry industry during its upcoming trade show, scheduled for May 17-20.
The roundtable discussion, titled “Workforce at Risk,” will bring together professionals from across the jewelry sector to examine the shortage of skilled workers and the loss of expertise as experienced craftspeople retire or leave the industry.
The discussion will be held on May 17 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Dennison Room in the Detroit Marriott Troy, the venue for the show. A welcome dinner hosted by TJS will follow the session.
Linus Drogs, chairman of the TJS board, commented, “The board is aware of the growing challenges in hiring and retaining skilled labor across the industry, from bench jewelers to retail staff and manufacturing technicians.”
He continued, “We believe that bringing together a diverse group of industry professionals at TJS will offer an excellent opportunity to identify and address these challenges. Our goal is to spark ideas and collaboration on how we can work together to solve this issue.”
