A new jewelry factory built with Chinese investment officially opened in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on April 10. The facility is operated by China-Tajikistan Mining Industry Company LLC and was inaugurated by President Emomali Rahmon.
Construction of the factory began in 2023. The site now features advanced production units and a two-story center for gold sales. It uses modern Chinese technology and can process up to one ton of gold and 30 tons of silver every year. The factory will produce jewelry, decorative pieces, and various household items.
During the same ceremony, President Rahmon also laid foundation stones for two more jewelry factories. These upcoming facilities will be developed by TBEA Dushanbe Mining Industry Company LLC and Pakrut Company LLC. Both are also funded by Chinese investors and are expected to be completed within a year. The new factories will also be located in the capital.
China plays a major role in Tajikistan’s gold industry. It currently accounts for over 75% of the country’s gold production. While Chinese investment has improved the country’s mining infrastructure, it has sparked criticism. Some experts have raised concerns about possible environmental harm and labor rights violations linked to Chinese operations in the region.
Despite these concerns, the Tajik government continues to promote foreign partnerships to grow its industrial and mining sectors.
