Cooksongold, a leading UK supplier of precious metals and tools for the jewelry industry, has adopted Artec 3D’s Micro 3D scanner to significantly reduce the time required to create high-precision 3D models of jewelry. This cutting-edge technology allows Cooksongold to quickly capture the intricate details of jewelry pieces while maintaining exceptional accuracy.
The use of this technology has not only boosted productivity but also provided valuable benefits to customers needing custom design adjustments or duplicates. The Artec Micro scanner enables Cooksongold to produce high-resolution digital scans of complex jewelry in just one to two hours.
Olivia Champion, New Product Development Engineer at Cooksongold, explained, “For a simple ring or part, it usually takes about an hour to capture a few versions of the scan from different angles, stitch the data together in Artec Studio, and export the file as an STL. After making any necessary adjustments, we send the file directly to the customer. In the past, CAD modeling a detailed, handmade ring would take three to four hours, and even then, the result wouldn’t be as precise. Now, we can make digital modifications much faster.”
Cooksongold’s improved 3D scanning service offers a simple process for clients. Jewelers and jewelry owners can submit their pieces for digitization through an online portal. After receiving the items, Cooksongold uses the Artec Micro scanner to create a detailed, editable STL file. This allows clients to easily modify, reproduce, or digitally archive their unique designs with greater accuracy.
Sergey Suhovey, Chief Experience Officer at Artec 3D, commented, “The Artec Micro was specifically designed to capture fine details on small objects. We are excited to see it making such a positive impact at Cooksongold. The Micro is ideal for digitizing intricate jewelry pieces with speed and precision. It helps jewelry manufacturers streamline their processes and deliver greater value to their customers.”
Building on the success of the original Micro scanner, Artec has introduced the new Micro II. This enhanced model offers a wider field of view, 5-micron accuracy, and 2-micron repeatability, further improving its precision and capabilities.
