Tampa-based jewelry artist Caitlin Albritton is known for crafting stunning pieces that combine nature’s raw beauty with intricate design. By using natural stones, Albritton highlights the strength and beauty of women, offering a unique take on jewelry-making.
“I really love the limited color palette that nature provides. It’s exciting to pull my colors from that,” Albritton said.
Her materials come from raw stones such as quartz, sapphires, and emeralds, which she sources from various locations. Albritton hand-cuts these stones to create small, mosaic-style designs that form the centerpiece of her jewelry.
Albritton combines these mosaics with sterling silver using a technique known as inlaying. The process brings together a mix of emotions, offering both a creative challenge and a calming experience for the artist.
“It’s really meditative,” Albritton said. “It allows me to focus, reflect on what’s going on in my life, and calm my mind.”
Each piece she creates can contain between 15 and 60 small stones, all of which are carefully cut, ground, and sanded. Albritton enjoys the hands-on aspect of her work, especially the use of various equipment that brings the stones to life.
“There’s something special about working with stone and nature’s materials. It’s an absolute wonder,” she added.
One of Albritton’s signature styles is her figurative pieces, which celebrate the diverse and powerful nature of women. Her work reflects a deep appreciation for the human body, a theme she’s explored throughout her artistic career.
“I’ve always worked with the human figure, whether through painting, ceramics, glass, or now inlay jewelry,” Albritton explained. “When I was in high school, I struggled with an eating disorder. Working with the body in my art helped me process those emotions and gain a better understanding of myself.”
Through her jewelry, Albritton seeks to capture both the external and internal strength of women, bringing nature’s beauty into every piece she creates.
