Lahore, Pakistan – Experts have expressed their optimism that the upcoming Gems and Jewelry Show in 2024 will serve as a pivotal event in the global showcase of precious stones and gems. Speaking to the media on a Sunday, they emphasized that the primary objective of the exhibition is to spotlight Pakistan’s rich mineral and mining sector, which boasts an astonishing 80 percent of the nation’s mineral resources. This exhibition is expected to play a vital role in unlocking the mineral potential of the country.
Kashif Anwar, President of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), praised the commendable role played by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) in uniting various trade bodies and collaborating with the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) to organize an event that will attract foreign investors and buyers. The Trade Corporation of Pakistan revealed that the exhibition aims to draw investments and facilitate the trade of precious stones and minerals within the country, creating a golden opportunity for local businesses to expand their horizons both nationally and internationally.
Experts highlighted the untapped potential of Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) in the mining and minerals industry, considering the wealth of exquisite gemstones found in both regions, including topaz, aquamarine, emerald, tourmaline, sapphire, ruby, quartz, the quartz group, and garnet. Liaquat Ali, Deputy Manager of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), revealed that virtually every river and stream in GB yields placer gold. Moreover, various surveys and investigations conducted by the government, facilitated through the Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC), have identified 108 potential targets. These areas are brimming with an array of metallic and non-metallic minerals, further underlining the immense mineral wealth of the region.
The Gems and Jewelry Show 2024 is poised to be a significant catalyst in not only showcasing Pakistan’s mineral riches to the world but also in attracting investments and promoting trade within the country. The exhibition offers a promising platform for local businesses to explore new opportunities and engage with investors and buyers from across the globe. This event stands as a testament to Pakistan’s potential as a global player in the gems and jewelry industry.
