Glasgow, MT—Last fall, Baker’s Jewelry in Glasgow proudly celebrated its 75th year in business, a testament to its enduring commitment to beauty, quality, and the community it serves. Owners Harvey and Karen Wall, custodians of this legacy, reflect on the store’s journey and the deep-rooted values that continue to define its success.

Originally established in downtown Glasgow at 530 2nd Ave. S. by L.J. “Bake” Baker in 1948, Baker’s Jewelry has undergone transformations as both a business and a community cornerstone. In 1983, Harvey Wall took the reins at the age of 23, building upon the foundation laid by the Bakers. The business witnessed a pivotal moment in 1987 when Harvey’s wife, Karen Euell, joined him, marking the beginning of a family legacy.

In the mid-2000s, Baker’s Jewelry moved to its present location on Highway 2, adapting to changing times while ensuring a commitment to downtown revitalization. The Walls not only witnessed the physical expansion of the store but also internal upgrades in 2023, showcasing their dedication to modernization.

The unique charm of Baker’s Jewelry, however, goes beyond its business evolution. Baker’s interest in agates, particularly Montana moss agates, became a defining aspect of the store. Harvey Wall, initially apprenticed by Baker in 1979, embraced this passion and skillfully transitioned from agate enthusiast to an accomplished jeweler. The Walls’ commitment to craftsmanship and quality has been a constant, weathering economic shifts and global challenges.

Harvey Wall acknowledges the invaluable mentorship he received from Mr. Baker, especially during challenging times. The enduring belief in good times around the corner, coupled with an understanding of customers’ desires for enduring quality, has been a guiding principle for Baker’s Jewelry.

Over the years, the Wall family has grown, mirroring the changes in their customer base. The familial touch extends to the next generation—son Jory, daughter Kyla, and their respective spouses and grandchildren have become integral to the business. The Walls proudly share that Jory, Hannah, and Brandt are actively involved in designing, selling, and assisting customers, ensuring a seamless transition of expertise and passion.

The store’s commitment to community is evident through its philanthropic endeavors. Every other year, Baker’s Jewelry donates a ring to the FMDH Foundation dinner, showcasing both artistic brilliance and community support. This reflects the Walls’ belief in engaging younger generations in community initiatives.

As Baker’s Jewelry enters its next decade, the recent remodel in the fall of 2023 stands as a symbol of embracing modernity while preserving the essence of the store’s legacy. Harvey Wall, reflecting on 40 years of ownership, expresses gratitude for the rewarding journey, where his kids and grandkids have grown within the business, creating a sense of fulfillment.

Baker’s Jewelry, located at 54174 US-2, Glasgow, continues to be a beacon of quality, craftsmanship, and community engagement. Open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays by appointment. In marking 75 years, Baker’s Jewelry exemplifies not just a business milestone but a testament to the enduring spirit of family, craftsmanship, and community in Glasgow.
