TYLER, TX — The Tyler Rose Garden Center has been buzzing with activity as gem enthusiasts and geologists alike gather for the 27th annual Gemstone and Jewelry Show hosted by the East Texas Gem and Mineral Society. Since its commencement on Friday, the event has attracted visitors from all corners of the state.

With a history spanning over 60 years, the East Texas Gem and Mineral Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, holds a prominent place in the region. Governed by a dedicated Board of Directors, the society serves 14 counties in East Texas and beyond, fostering a shared passion for earth sciences.

Rick Walker, the show chairman, highlighted the society’s enduring presence, stating, “We have quite the following.” The organization, founded on November 12, 1956, emerged from a collective interest in geology, mineralogy, gemology, fossils, and the lapidary arts. Its primary goal is to educate and promote the study of these disciplines, providing a space for like-minded individuals to connect, communicate, and learn.

The annual Gemstone and Jewelry Show stands as the society’s flagship fundraising event. The current objective is to raise sufficient funds to establish a workshop within their Tyler clubhouse, further supporting their mission.

Attendance at the show has soared, drawing thousands each year, including newcomers like Sandra Ashcraft, who expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I absolutely love it. It has definitely been worth the admission.” From observing geode-breaking demonstrations to participating in silent auctions, attendees find a diverse range of activities to engage in.

Rick Walker shared insights into the show’s popularity, stating, “This is a very busy show for our vendors.” With 11 vendors hailing from various parts of Texas and the United States, the event has become a coveted opportunity. Walker mentioned a waiting list for participation, emphasizing its status as the vendors’ favorite and most lucrative show.

The Gemstone and Jewelry Show showcases a rich assortment of offerings, including gemstones, gold and silver jewelry, minerals, fossils, cut and uncut stones, geodes, and more. The event serves as a testament to the enduring allure of Earth’s treasures and the community that appreciates them.
