Lucara has revealed the discovery of a remarkable 320-carat diamond at its Karowe mine in Botswana. This impressive find is accompanied by a 111-carat stone and two additional stones weighing over 50 carats each.
Since the commencement of commercial operations in 2012, Lucara, a Canadian mining company, has revealed a total of 330 diamonds weighing over 100 carats each from the Karowe mine. The 320-carat gem is described as a “stunning, gem-quality, top light brown diamond,” while the other three diamonds are classified as Type IIa white stones.
William Lamb, Lucara’s president and CEO, expressed delight, stating, “We are thrilled with the consistent success we continue to achieve in uncovering large, high-value diamonds, reaffirming Lucara’s position as a leading producer of large high-quality gem diamonds.”
In separate gem-related news, Gem Diamonds has reported the recovery of its third diamond weighing over 100 carats in 2024 from its Letseng mine in Lesotho. This recent find is a high-quality 113-carat Type IIa diamond. Earlier in January, Gem Diamonds retrieved a 129-carat gem and a 295-carat gem from the same mine. Notably, throughout the entirety of 2023, the miner only recovered five diamonds weighing over 100 carats each.
