At a recent Sotheby’s auction in New York, a stunning 41.02-carat fancy intense yellow diamond captivated bidders, ultimately selling for $1.02 million. The gem, boasting natural color and VS2 clarity, was a standout piece among the collection titled “From the Vault Exceptional Signed Jewels,” held on March 7th. Initially estimated to fetch between $800,000 to $1.2 million, the diamond surpassed expectations.
Additionally, a vintage Van Cleef & Arpels gold and diamond zipper necklace-bracelet combination, along with a pair of earclips dating back to circa 1950, fetched $482,600, falling within the estimated range of $400,000 to $600,000.
Notably, an exquisite Asprey fancy vivid yellow diamond and diamond necklace with a pair of earrings, anticipated to command between $2 million to $3 million, was withdrawn from the auction.
The auction featured a total of 81 pieces by Van Cleef & Arpels, 43 by Cartier, and 21 each by David Webb and Bulgari, showcasing an array of prestigious jewelry. The identity of the collection’s owner remains undisclosed, as per their request for anonymity.
