Princess Diana’s sapphire engagement ring is a well-known piece of royal history, now worn by Kate Middleton after being gifted to her by Diana’s son, William, in 2011. However, another significant ring that belonged to Diana has found its way to another royal family member. Who is wearing it today?
According to Express, Princess Diana received a 13-carat aquamarine stone from her friend Lucia Flecha de Lima, wife of the former Brazilian ambassador to London, in 1990. Paul Hird, head of luxury auctions at John Pye Luxury, explained that the ring features an emerald-cut aquamarine set among small solitaire diamonds in 24-carat yellow gold. Asprey made it into a ring in 1996, the same year Diana and then-Prince Charles finalized their divorce. It was thought that this ring might replace Diana’s sapphire and diamond engagement ring. However, she was still seen wearing the iconic sapphire piece as late as December 1996 at a Met Gala event.
Today, the aquamarine ring is valued at over $100,000. Who owns it now?
On May 19, 2018, Meghan Markle wore the aquamarine ring on her right hand, hours after her wedding to Prince Harry. She was seen waving to the crowds as the couple headed to their evening reception, pairing the ring with a sleek white Stella McCartney dress. Since then, Meghan has worn the ring on several occasions, indicating that Harry kept the ring after William gifted Kate Middleton Diana’s sapphire ring.
Meghan was seen wearing the aquamarine ring during a dinner in Tonga in October 2018 and at the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Ripple of Hope Gala in 2022.
Additionally, Meghan Markle wore a stunning cross pendant adorned with diamonds during a recent visit to Nigeria, which once belonged to Princess Diana, according to Page Six. She also wore Diana’s gold Cartier Tank Française watch during this visit.
The Duchess of Sussex frequently wears Diana’s Cartier tennis bracelet, first seen on Meghan during a royal tour of Australia and Fiji in 2018. She later wore it for her 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey and the Salute To Freedom Gala in New York City that same year.
Meghan also donned Princess Diana’s diamond and sapphire butterfly earrings during a 2018 tour of Australia. She paired them with Diana’s gold bracelet, featuring two blue stones believed to be sapphires or lapis lazuli.
Recently, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry toured Nigeria. Their visit was not sanctioned by the royal family.
