Gemfields Group Limited has declared Bruce Cleaver as the new Chair of the Board, starting July 1st, 2024. Cleaver, recognized for his notable leadership and extensive background in gemstone mining, will succeed Martin Tolcher. Additionally, Cleaver will assume the role of an independent Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Nomination Committee.
Before this appointment, Cleaver served as the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Chair of De Beers Group, where he significantly influenced the diamond industry. His experience in mining gemstones in Africa and marketing them globally is anticipated to offer valuable perspectives to Gemfields.
Expressing his thoughts, Cleaver stated, “Gemfields is an exceptional and remarkable business, which has transformed a fragmented and relatively informal industry into a highly sophisticated one, being the first consistent supplier of substantial quantities of colored gemstones in a responsible and transparent manner. The colored gemstone market has long surpassed the emergence of their lab-grown counterparts, with lab-grown rubies existing for over 120 years.”
