Gemports, the Colored Gemstone Reference Price Guide, saw its global launch on June 14, 2024, at Avani+ Riverside Bangkok. This significant event marks a milestone in the gemstone industry, aiming to broaden the market, enhance trust and clarity, and educate buyers.
The initiative behind Gemports is a result of collaboration among four esteemed organizations: the Gems & Jewelry Trade Association of China (GAC), the National Gemstone Testing Center (NGTC) – China, The Gems, Jewelry, and Precious Metal Confederation of Thailand (GJPCT), and the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association (TGJTA), celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Together, these organizations strive to expand the global colored stone market by establishing a pricing reference framework, promoting transparency, and fostering international growth.
Since 2019, Gemports has been in development, employing advanced technology for data management to collect and analyze data meticulously. It serves as a pricing reference for gemstones, gathering prices from manufacturers, experts, traders, and retailers across various countries, including China, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Europe, India, Africa, and America. These efforts result in standardized and internationally recognized prices, taking into account factors like source of origin, carat weight, color, quality enhancement methods, clarity, and cut. These reference prices offer guidance to end-users and enhance confidence in transactions. Moreover, Gemports facilitates sellers in showcasing unique colored gemstone products, promoting market efficiency, and sustainable expansion of the colored gemstone market, aiming for colored gemstones to become valuable investment assets in the future.
In the current global focus on sustainability, Gemports introduces the concept of “Ethical Selling,” aiming to educate and prioritize the well-being of end-users to expand the market further.
Ms. Porntiva Niparin, President of the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association, expressed her thoughts on this milestone, stating, “The launch of Gemports is a significant stride toward transforming the colored gemstone market. It will introduce unparalleled transparency, educate buyers, and propel the industry forward. We take pride in being part of this initiative and anticipate its positive impact on the global gemstone trade.”
Gemports initially launched in China in 2023, followed by the global launch in Bangkok, Thailand, in 2024. This strategic approach allows for gradual expansion, facilitating widespread adoption and maximizing its industry impact.
On the evening of June 14th, distinguished guests from prominent organizations within the global jewelry and gem industry attended, including the Hong Kong Jewellery & Jade Manufacturers Association (HKJJA), the Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers’ Association (HKJMA), Macau China Diamond and Gem Exchange, and representatives from Myanmar, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Shenzhen.
The event convened industry leaders to discuss the latest advancements and trends shaping the world of gems and jewelry.
