Gubelin Gem Lab Introduces AI-Powered Reports for Emeralds, Rubies, and Blue Sapphires
Gubelin Gem Lab, established in 1854, has launched a new service offering AI-powered gemstone reports for unmounted emeralds, rubies, and blue sapphires weighing up to 3.0 carats.
The Swiss watch and jewelry maison is utilizing an algorithm called Gemtelligence, which relies entirely on artificial intelligence (AI) technology. This tool helps determine the country of origin and identifies heat treatments in rubies and sapphires.
According to Gubelin, researchers utilized a vast reference collection of over 30,000 gemstones sourced from all major mines worldwide. They also analyzed tens of thousands of high-grade customer stones dating back to the 1970s.
The integration of AI has significantly streamlined the testing process, particularly reducing the time-consuming microscopic assessments, as noted by Gubelin. The newly introduced Gem Passports are priced at $215 each.
Raphael Gubelin, president of the company, expressed their commitment to supporting the industry by making gemmological documentation more accessible for smaller stones that were previously overlooked.
“The Gem Passport underscores our dedication to innovation and reflects our pioneering approach,” said Raphael Gubelin.
