A woman from Florida has been accused of stealing around $22,000 worth of jewelry from a person she was caring for at home.

Tiffany Mason, aged 34, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with felony larceny, as reported in an arrest document from Sumter County.

The charge follows a complaint filed by the victim on June 19, stating that five valuable rings, including an engagement ring and wedding band, were missing from her residence in The Villages. Despite efforts by the victim and her family to locate the jewelry, they were unsuccessful.

According to the arrest report, the victim was receiving in-home care from a local senior care service at the time of the theft, following a serious injury requiring surgery and continuous assistance.

Mason, along with her sister, had been employed as caregivers in the victim’s home since June 7.

Deputies returned to the victim’s residence on July 25 after Mason’s sister discovered the missing jewelry underneath a couch in the guest bedroom. The jewelry was found inside a pouch that the victim normally kept in her bedroom dresser drawer, separate from her other jewelry. The victim expressed her intent to press charges.

During their investigation, detectives discovered that Mason had pawned at least three of the missing rings.

Mason agreed to be interviewed by law enforcement on Tuesday, during which deputies found sufficient evidence to arrest her.

She is currently being held without bond in jail.
