Two intoxicated thieves stole jewellery worth £76,000 (US$97,000) from a shop on a luxury cruise ship by hiding it in their trousers, a UK court has heard.
The incident occurred aboard the MSC Virtuosa, docked in Southampton, UK. The men, who had been drinking with unlimited alcohol, targeted an unattended shop in the ship’s galleria. They stole eight rings and two necklaces, which they were seen by fellow passengers stuffing into their underwear.
Security apprehended the men, but the ship’s departure shortly after hindered the investigation. Following their arrest, one surrendered to police, and the other was caught at London Gatwick Airport. Approximately £50,000 worth of jewellery remains missing.
Both men received suspended prison sentences and community work orders.
