A rare 0.94 carat Argyle Pink diamond, among the last retrieved from the renowned mine in Western Australia, is up for auction. This stone is the centerpiece of a 416-item online auction ending on August 11. The event includes items previously owned by Graham Jackson, the late proprietor of Loloma Jewellers in Townsville, Australia, who passed away at 92 in May.
This cushion cut fancy intense VS1 gem is classified as 6P – 6/10 for its hue intensity, with P indicating pink as its primary color. It was part of the final collection sold at the 2021 Argyle Pink Tender, marking the closure of the mine in November 2020 after 37 years. The mine had been responsible for 90% of the world’s pink diamonds.
Sydney-based First State Auctions is handling the sale, with the diamond expected to fetch between AUD$700,000 and AUD$800,000 (US$455,000 to US$520,000).
In January, Tiffany & Co. purchased a selection of 35 Argyle pink diamonds ranging from 0.35 carats to 1.52 carats for exclusive clients.
