A gang disguised as construction workers broke into a jewelry store in Schaumburg, Illinois, and stole goods worth at least $1 million. The robbers entered Marquise Jewelers by cutting a hole through the wall shared with an empty unit in a nearby mall.
The break-in was discovered at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 2, by a construction worker who noticed the hole in the wall.
“These are trained professionals. They did not plan this overnight,” said Asma Anwar, the store’s owner, in an interview with FOX 32 Chicago.
The suspects, who are believed to be five or six in number, cut through the walls of three other businesses to reach the jewelry store. Surveillance cameras captured them wearing construction attire.
Asma Anwar expressed concern about the impact on her business, stating, “We are small business owners, not a corporation. It will take us a long time to recover, if we can.”
