An 83-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in Florida over the fatal shooting of jewelry store owner Ghazi “Gus” Michel Osta.
John Willard Craiger, the accused, was known as a frequent customer at Volusia Gold & Diamond in Daytona Beach.
According to Florida’s state attorney, Craiger allegedly shot Osta at his store on West International Speedway Blvd. on July 19, 2024.
In response, Osta’s son, David Osta, fired back at Craiger. Craiger then returned fire. Osta later died from his injuries at the hospital.
Osta, a married father of four who emigrated from Lebanon 38 years ago, was shot multiple times in the legs and also suffered a head injury, police said.
