A guest was shocked to learn that a ring she brought to a recording of the Antiques Roadshow could be worth up to $150,000.
The ring, an Edwardian piece made of platinum, features a large oval-cut sapphire and two European-cut diamonds. It has been a family heirloom for over a century.
Appraiser Lucy Edwards suggested the sapphire might be from Kashmir, India, though a lab test would be needed to confirm this. If verified, the sapphire alone could be valued at up to $60,000.
The guest, who chose to remain unnamed, explained that the ring was not likely an engagement ring, noting that her great-great-grandmother, who passed away in 1912, would not have received one in that era. She also mentioned that the ring was absent in a portrait of her ancestor wearing her wedding ring.
Edwards remarked, “When I saw that sapphire, my eyes lit up. If it is indeed a Kashmir sapphire, which I am quite confident it is, it could fetch between $100,000 and $150,000 at auction.”
The guest responded in amazement, “Oh wow, that’s quite something.”
