India’s polished diamond exports fell by 23.8% in August, reaching $1.04 billion. This is a decrease from $1.36 billion in August 2023, according to data from the Gem and Jewelry Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), as reported by IDEX Online.
In July, the exports also showed a significant decline of 22.7%, amounting to $908 million. GJEPC’s data indicates that polished diamond exports from India have consistently decreased year-on-year throughout 2024.
Overall, the export of all gemstones and jewelry from India totaled $2.01 billion in August. This reflects an annual decline of 18.8%, which is less than the drop in diamond exports. Additionally, rough diamond imports to India fell by 22.6% from April to August, totaling $4.98 billion.
