A Paraiba tourmaline and diamond ring was the highlight of a recent jewelry auction at Bonhams, selling for $533,900—nearly nine times its highest estimate.
This striking ring features a 5.44-carat cushion-shaped Paraiba tourmaline surrounded by brilliant-cut diamonds. Initially, it was estimated to sell for between $40,000 and $60,000 at the September 26 auction, according to Bonhams’ announcement last week. The event, titled “Exceptional Jewels from a Distinguished Collection,” raised a total of $4.8 million, with 98% of the items sold, many of which exceeded their presale estimates.
Emily Waterfall, director and head of jewelry for Bonhams Los Angeles, praised the collection, stating, “The single-owner collection was truly exceptional, representing a distinguished collection of colored-stone jewels from a family with fabulous taste and a genuine passion for selecting and wearing fine jewelry.” She added that the collection was chic, classic, and elegant, noting, “The competition was fierce, especially for the Oscar Heyman emerald ring, featuring one of the finest-quality stones I’ve ever had the privilege to handle.”
