This year, Louis Vuitton reinterprets its classic chequerboard design, originally featured on its iconic trunks. The new collection combines gold squares with sparkling diamonds, creating a stunning balance of boldness and refined elegance.
The 12-piece fine jewellery collection, led by Francesca Amfitheatrof, Louis Vuitton’s artistic director for watches and jewellery, is crafted from yellow and white gold. It highlights the geometric beauty of the damier motif through sleek, stackable designs. “It’s not just about the diamonds, but the pattern they create,” Amfitheatrof states, pointing out the balance of simplicity and sophistication in each piece.
Designed for everyday luxury, the jewellery feels like a second skin. Its smooth, polished surfaces and bold geometric lines give the collection a timeless yet modern look. With its unisex appeal, Le Damier de Louis Vuitton encourages wearers to mix, match, and layer pieces according to their personal style.
A key item in the collection is the versatile damier ring, which comes in three widths and two finishes: yellow or white gold. Whether choosing a subtle two-row gold and diamond version or a striking four-row diamond design, this ring captures the essence of Louis Vuitton’s legacy while appealing to contemporary tastes.
The collection also includes a sleek round pendant, adorned with diamonds on a delicate yellow gold chain. This piece offers a classic yet modern statement. Additionally, diamond-studded yellow gold hoop earrings echo the damier’s stacked, sculpted look, adding a geometric touch to the overall aesthetic.
Another highlight is the modern interpretation of the tennis bracelet. Inspired by the memorable 1978 US Open incident when a player’s diamond bracelet fell during a match, this piece blends movement and elegance, showcasing Louis Vuitton’s heritage alongside everyday practicality.
With its bold yet adaptable design, Le Damier de Louis Vuitton breaks traditional gender and style boundaries. “It’s about embracing a piece of history and making it your own,” Amfitheatrof explains. Each item in the collection honors the brand’s rich history while offering a fresh perspective on fine jewellery, making it relevant today.
The Le Damier de Louis Vuitton collection will be available in Louis Vuitton boutiques worldwide starting November 2024.
