This week, Bonhams auction of late U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein’s personal collection brought in nearly $1.9 million, more than double the estimated total.
The auction, held on Tuesday in Los Angeles, highlighted Feinstein’s jewelry collection, which alone generated over half a million dollars. A platinum and diamond ring emerged as the top item, selling for $108,450, significantly exceeding its high estimate of $65,000.
Another impressive sale was the senator’s California State Flower brooch, crafted in 14-karat bicolor gold and diamonds. It sold for $19,200, an astounding 24 times its estimated price of $800.
Additionally, a jade necklace featuring a gold and diamond clasp surpassed its $1,200 estimate, fetching a total of $15,360. A set of 18-karat gold jewelry by Angela Cummings for Tiffany & Co., which included a necklace and ear clips with a rose-petal design, sold for $10,880, more than tripling the expected amount.
“This turnout shows the significant impact Senator Feinstein had in California. We are honored to host this auction to celebrate the life and achievements of such a remarkable stateswoman,” stated Victoria R. Gray, Bonhams’ deputy chairman of trusts and estates for North America.
In addition to jewelry, the auction featured artworks, furniture, and other personal items. An online sale of additional pieces from Feinstein’s jewelry collection is ongoing and will run until October 15.
