A visitor at Crater of Diamonds State Park made a noteworthy discovery while searching for gemstones. After starting with wet sifting, they switched to surface searching after several hours. While walking near the North Wash pavilion, they spotted something sparkling on the ground. Upon closer inspection, it was revealed to be a diamond.
Park staff confirmed the find as a silvery-white gem with a round, pitted surface. Although it initially appeared brown due to inclusions, a detailed look showed a clear white exterior. Park Interpreter Sarah Reap commented on the calm demeanor of the finder when presenting the diamond, which weighs over two carats.
This diamond marks the third over two carats registered at the park this year, contributing to a total of 548 diamonds discovered in 2024. Crater of Diamonds State Park is well-known for its frequent diamond finds, with one to two gems uncovered daily.
