Costco is now offering 1oz platinum bars online to its members, priced at $1,089.99. This follows the retailer’s introduction of 1oz gold bars in August 2023, which are available both in-store and online. As of last week, the gold bars were priced at $2,689.99.
With the rising demand for precious metals, Costco is positioning itself as a trusted source for customers who may not typically invest in such assets.
Gold prices have surged 29% since the beginning of 2024, while platinum, though more volatile, has increased by 7.6%. As of October 15, platinum was trading at $979.42.
Costco’s online listing describes the 1oz platinum bar as a PAMP Suisse Lady Fortuna Veriscan (New in Assay) with 999.5% purity. It is non-refundable and limited to five bars per paying Costco member.
In the first quarter of 2023, Costco sold over $100 million worth of gold bars and later added $675 silver coins to its offerings.
