Fabergé has introduced a new, more affordable piece in its James Bond-themed 007 collection. The latest item, an 18k yellow gold locket, commemorates the 60th anniversary of the classic film Goldfinger. This locket is designed in the shape of an egg, resembling a gold depository safe from Fort Knox, and features a hidden ruby inside.
The Fabergé x 007 Goldfinger Egg Safe Locket with Ruby Heart Surprise is now available for pre-order, with deliveries set for January. The price is $18,900.
The first item in the 007 collection, an Octopussy-themed egg, was a limited edition piece adorned with 180 round brilliant cut white diamonds and sold for $145,000.
The new Egg Safe Locket opens to reveal a heart-shaped ruby sourced from Gemfields’ Montepuez mine in Mozambique. This marks the first time Fabergé has designed an egg surprise locket that opens in this unique manner.
According to the company, “The ruby heart nestled inside is dripping in gold and represents Goldfinger’s passion for gold, referencing the lyrics of the title song, ‘He loves only gold.’” The exact size of the ruby has not been disclosed, but a product description includes a likely error stating, “1 Gemfields Heart Shaped Mozambique Ruby Total Weight 0.00ct.”
Founded by Gustav Fabergé in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1842, the Fabergé brand was acquired by UK-based gemstone miner Gemfields in 2013.
