A pair of earrings featuring yellow diamonds became the star attraction at Christie’s jewelry auction in Hong Kong, selling for HKD 62 million ($8 million).
Named “The Oriental Sunrise,” the earrings include two oval mixed-cut, fancy-vivid-orange-yellow diamonds weighing 12.20 carats and 11.96 carats, along with white diamonds. The final sale price matched expectations set before the auction. The Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels sale, held on October 29, achieved a total of HKD 466.8 million ($60.1 million), according to Christie’s.
Several items outside the top 10 lots sold for significantly more than their estimated prices. For instance, a pair of jadeite and diamond earrings fetched HKD 5.2 million ($664,860), well above the high estimate of HKD 2.5 million ($321,748). Additionally, a diamond and ruby pendant necklace sold for HKD 2.3 million ($291,887), exceeding its estimated maximum of HKD 960,000 ($123,550).
In contrast, a colored diamond ring expected to sell for up to HKD 80 million ($10 million) was withdrawn from the auction. Ronny Hsu, head of jewelry sales at Christie’s Hong Kong, explained that this decision was made strategically to adjust the offerings for the sale. This ring featured a marquise brilliant-cut, 5.02-carat, fancy-deep-blue, internally flawless diamond at its center, surrounded by trilliant-cut white diamonds.
