Govind Dholakia, founder and chairman of Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK), presented a one-of-a-kind gift to India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi—a natural diamond meticulously carved into the shape of India’s map. Named Navbharat Ratna, this 2.120-carat diamond represents the unity, beauty, and brilliance of the nation.
Crafted by skilled artisans from Surat, Gujarat, the diamond required 3,700 minutes of painstaking effort to complete. Master artisans Rajeshbhai Kachadia and Vishalbhai Italia played key roles in bringing the diamond to life. With 14 years of experience at SRK, Kachadia dedicated 40 hours to shaping the diamond into the map of India. Italia, a six-year veteran of SRK, polished the gem for 22 hours, ensuring its flawless finish.
Surat, known as the global hub of the diamond industry, processes 90% of the world’s diamonds, and this unique creation further highlights the craftsmanship of Indian artisans. The Navbharat Ratna not only symbolizes the growing prominence of India on the world stage but also underscores the exceptional skill of its diamond industry.
