Tiffany & Co., renowned as a global leader in jewelry design, continues to evolve its brand with the unveiling of a striking new store in Stuttgart’s Dorotheen Quarter. The latest in a series of innovative store designs, this new location features a dazzling exterior inspired by the brand’s rich history, blending artistry with modern architecture.
Designed by the Dutch architectural firm MVRDV, the Stuttgart store’s facade is a masterful creation of 2,829 hand-crafted ceramic diamonds. These iridescent elements, mounted on a glass storefront, create the illusion of floating jewels, evoking the luxurious essence of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s Favrile Glass, developed in 1894. Each ceramic diamond is cast using a traditional slip-casting technique, glazed in one of nine custom colors that transition from Tiffany’s signature robin’s-egg blue to pristine white, providing a captivating gradient effect.
The ceramic diamonds are mounted on both sides of the glass, forming an immersive, surreal experience. The design’s transparency and opacity vary across the facade, allowing clearer views at the building’s corners and display windows. According to the designers, the facade exemplifies the perfect fusion of art, architecture, and material science, transforming the shopping experience into an enchanting journey through craftsmanship and design.
