Kate Middleton joined the royal family this afternoon in welcoming the Emir of Qatar and his wife, Sheikha Jawaher, during Qatar’s state visit to the UK. This event marks a key moment in Kate’s return to public duties following her completion of chemotherapy treatment in September.
For the formal occasion, the Princess of Wales wore a burgundy coat dress designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. She accessorized the outfit with a hat by Sahar Millinery and jewelry once owned by the late Queen Elizabeth, including a pearl necklace and drop earrings. To highlight her accessories, Kate styled her hair in an updo, keeping the focus on the hat and jewelry.
The color burgundy was also present when Kate made her first public appearance after finishing chemotherapy in early October. On that occasion, she wore a burgundy pantsuit for a meeting with a young photographer and her family at Windsor Castle. Kate and her husband, Prince William, shared a post on Instagram at the time, praising the photographer’s creativity and strength. They wrote, “A pleasure to meet with Liz at Windsor today… a talented young photographer whose creativity and strength has inspired us both. Thank you for sharing your photos and story with us. ❤️ W&C.”
When Kate announced that she had completed her chemotherapy treatment, she emphasized that her health and recovery remained her primary focus. On Instagram, she wrote, “Doing what I can to stay cancer-free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes. I am, however, looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can.”
Kate also expressed her gratitude for the support she and William have received. “Everyone’s kindness, empathy, and compassion has been truly humbling,” she said.
Later this week, Kate will host the annual Together at Christmas Carol Service, set for December 6.
