Chanel has unveiled its first high jewellery collection of the year, Plume de Chanel, drawing inspiration from Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel’s groundbreaking 1910 debut creation, Bijoux de Diamants. The collection pays homage to the timeless feather motif, a signature element in Coco Chanel’s designs, while introducing modern interpretations for today’s luxury jewellery enthusiasts.
Coco Chanel was a visionary ahead of her time. In 1910, she introduced a bold hat adorned with a dramatic, oversized white feather, capturing the attention of the fashion world. Two decades later, in 1932, she reimagined the feather as a fully articulated brooch in her first and only high jewellery collection, Bijoux de Diamants.
Now, the feather motif takes center stage once again in the Plume de Chanel collection. Comprising 15 exquisite pieces, the range includes versatile earrings, a hair ornament, an open ring, and a necklace with detachable feathers that can also be worn as a brooch. The collection was crafted under the direction of Patrice Leguéreau, the late director of the Chanel Fine Jewellery Creation Studio, who passed away in November 2023.
The new designs feature a significant evolution in the feather motif. The plumes are now wider from top to bottom, enhancing their realism while maintaining the delicate, supple movement created by the gently undulating barbs. This attention to detail ensures each piece captures the lightness and grace of a real feather.
While diamonds dominate the collection, vibrant pink gemstones add a touch of vivacious femininity. The pieces incorporate a range of pink stones, from bright pink sapphires to soft pastel tourmalines, offering a playful contrast to the collection’s classic elegance.
Plume de Chanel is a testament to the enduring legacy of Coco Chanel’s innovative spirit. With its blend of timeless inspiration and contemporary craftsmanship, the collection is sure to captivate jewellery lovers worldwide.
