For the second time in three days, a jewelry store in Niagara has been targeted in a bold smash-and-grab robbery. This latest incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at Harmony Jewellers in Grimsby, following a similar heist at the Niagara Pen Centre on Thursday.
According to the Niagara Regional Police, six individuals used small sledgehammers to smash the front entrance of Harmony Jewellers at approximately 3:50 p.m. Once inside, they broke into several display cases and stole merchandise. The suspects then fled the scene in a vehicle heading toward Mountain Street.
The store, located at 37 Main St. W., was open at the time of the robbery. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Police described the suspects as wearing black hooded sweatshirts or jackets, black pants, masks, and either blue latex or light-colored gloves. Their footwear was either white or black.
This incident comes just days after a similar robbery at Griffin Jewellery Designs in the Niagara Pen Centre. In that case, five suspects used a small sledgehammer to smash display cases before fleeing in a silver Honda CRV with stolen license plates. The suspects in that robbery were also wearing hooded sweatshirts—one white and the others black.
Authorities are investigating whether the two incidents are connected. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Niagara Regional Police.
The recent spike in brazen jewelry store robberies has left local businesses and residents on edge, as police work to identify and apprehend the suspects involved.
