A six-foot-tall ice sculpture inspired by the humble daffodil will take center stage at this year’s York Ice Trail, thanks to award-winning jeweler Bradley’s of York. The sculpture, commissioned by Bradley’s Jewellers in Low Petergate, is part of the annual event set to take place on February 1-2, featuring 30 intricately crafted ice displays across the city.
This year’s trail, themed “Origins,” will celebrate over 2,000 years of York’s rich history through creative storytelling. Bradley’s sculpture draws inspiration from its best-selling York Daffodil jewellery collection and marks the tenth anniversary of its city-wide jewellery competition.
Owner Kay Bradley explained the choice of the daffodil, saying, “Last year, our sculpture highlighted laboratory-grown diamonds and the upcoming launch of the Fabergé x Bradley’s Jewellers Christmas Robin Egg Surprise Locket Pendant. For 2025, I wanted to try something different. The York Daffodil collection has been a consistent best-seller, especially among Yorkshire brides. Its message of optimism, hope, and renewal felt perfect for this year’s trail.”
The York Daffodil collection, crafted in sterling silver, 9ct, and 18ct yellow gold, features pear-shaped yellow sapphires, round brilliant-cut orange sapphires, and pear-shaped citrines. The designs, adorned with millgrain detailing, capture the vibrant shape and colors of daffodils in bloom. Kay designed the collection to celebrate the annual display of yellow daffodils around York Minster, which has since inspired a range of Yorkshire-themed, British-made fine jewellery.
Other highlights of the Ice Trail will include a Roman shield, a Viking helmet, a chocolate bar, a drifting ghost, a frosty train, and a Yorkshire Rose. Organized by Make It York, the event is part of the city’s commitment to hosting world-class cultural and creative experiences.
The sculptures are crafted by Icebox, the UK and Europe’s leading ice sculpture specialists. The York Ice Trail promises to be a dazzling celebration of art, history, and community, with Bradley’s daffodil sculpture symbolizing the enduring spirit of York.
