The National Museum, in partnership with the Italian Embassy in Muscat, launched an exhibition titled “DIVA! Italian Charm in Fashion Jewellery” on February 9, 2025. The event showcases the elegance and innovation of Italian fashion jewellery, drawing attention to its cultural and artistic significance.
The exhibition was inaugurated under the patronage of Her Highness Sayyeda Mona bint Fahad Al Sayyed, Vice-Chancellor for International Cooperation at Sultan Qaboos University and Vice-Chairman of the National Museum’s Board of Trustees. The opening ceremony attracted art and culture enthusiasts, and the exhibition will remain open to the public until March 9, 2025.
Curated by Professor Alba Cappellieri, a leading expert in jewellery design at Politecnico di Milano and Director of the Vicenza Jewellery Museum, the exhibition features over 100 exquisite pieces of Italian fashion jewellery. These pieces illustrate the evolution of Italian jewellery design from the 1950s to the present day, reflecting changes in society and advancements in jewellery-making techniques.
In his opening remarks, His Excellency Pierluigi D’Elia, the Italian Ambassador to Oman, emphasized the exhibition’s celebration of Italian artistry. “This exhibition highlights beauty, creativity, and craftsmanship, demonstrating how art transcends borders to create a universal language of culture, harmony, and innovation,” he said.
Ambassador D’Elia added, “We are proud to collaborate with the National Museum and Professor Cappellieri to bring this unique exhibition to Oman. We hope it inspires a greater appreciation for the artistry behind Italian jewellery.”
Jamal bin Hassan Al-Moosawi, Secretary General of the National Museum, underscored the significance of the exhibition. He described it as a celebration of Italian craftsmanship, blending tradition and modernity. “This exhibition offers visitors a chance to experience the unique beauty of Italian jewellery and its cultural impact,” he said.
Al-Moosawi also expressed hope that the exhibition would inspire Omani artisans and deepen their understanding of Italian jewellery’s history and global influence. “We look forward to further collaborations that promote cultural exchange between Oman and Italy,” he added.
Professor Alba Cappellieri highlighted the evolving role of jewellery in society. “Modern jewellery is no longer just an accessory; it is a craft that reflects the identity of a progressive and civilised society,” she explained. She described “DIVA!” as a journey into Italian creativity, celebrating the stories of the designers and artisans who shaped it.
Organised by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the exhibition strengthens cultural ties between Italy and Oman. It offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore the artistic and aesthetic history of Italian jewellery, which stands as a symbol of Italian creativity worldwide.
The “DIVA! Italian Charm in Fashion Jewellery” exhibition is a testament to the enduring appeal of Italian design and its ability to inspire across cultures. Don’t miss this celebration of artistry and innovation at the National Museum until March 9, 2025.
