Ulla Johnson’s Fall/Winter 2025 runway show at New York Fashion Week featured a unique collaboration with French artist Julie Hamisky. The partnership, unveiled on February 9, brought Hamisky’s nature-inspired jewelry to the spotlight alongside Johnson’s latest collection.
Johnson was inspired to work with Hamisky after visiting the artist’s recent exhibition at New York’s Kasmin Gallery. Hamisky’s work, which transforms natural elements like flowers into intricate, organic forms, resonated with Johnson’s aesthetic.
The two share a deep appreciation for nature’s fleeting beauty and the flowing lines of their respective crafts, making the collaboration a natural fit. The collection included 12 pieces—necklaces, earrings, rings, and belts—crafted in bronze and electroplated to highlight their delicate, nature-inspired designs. These pieces debuted at Johnson’s show, where Hamisky’s sculpture, La Geante, was also showcased in the venue.
Johnson explained her connection to Hamisky’s work: “I’ve always admired the work of Julie’s grandmother, Claude Lalanne. When Kasmin Gallery invited me to be part of Julie’s first New York exhibition, I was struck by the beauty of her pieces and the surprising similarities between our approaches. Though we work in different fields, our focus on fine art, gesture, and movement connects us deeply.”
Hamisky, known for her sculptural pieces, shared her thoughts on the collaboration: “Ulla and I both explore the idea of challenging gravity through shape and color. These works are born from our shared love of plants and nature.”
For Johnson, the collaboration highlights the fleeting nature of beauty. “Julie’s work captures the essence of a flower’s brief life, preserving it for future generations to admire,” she said. “Even though we work in different mediums, our approach is similar. This collection celebrates nature’s beauty and fragility, timelessly.”
The partnership between Johnson and Hamisky brings a harmonious blend of fashion and fine art, creating pieces that celebrate the beauty of nature in both form and function.
