Byredo has unveiled its first-ever fine jewellery collection, Virasaat, a celebration of self-expression and creativity. The collection draws inspiration from both personal heritage and contemporary design, highlighting the brand’s dedication to exploring new creative boundaries.
Ben Gorham, the founder and creative director of Byredo, shares his personal connection to jewellery: “Emotions and design are an intuitive connection for me. Both my mother and grandmother grew up in India, where jewellery is a cherished heirloom. It’s a part of their identity, much like the influence of hip-hop culture on my own upbringing.”
The Virasaat collection is brought to life in a new campaign photographed by Kat Irlin. The campaign emphasizes the modern and graphic qualities of the jewellery. Precious metals are crafted into an array of necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earrings, designed to interact with the body. The pieces, layered over blurred and hazy backdrops, evoke memories and emotions, serving as totemic objects meant to be passed down through generations.
The designs of the collection focus on simplicity and strength, featuring a central motif of graphic bars and rounded pearls arranged in a repeating chain-link pattern. This blend of industrial aesthetics with organic shapes reflects Byredo’s signature style of combining contrasting elements.
Named after the Hindi word “Virasaat,” meaning “inheritance,” the collection is deeply influenced by Gorham’s Indian heritage. Each piece is meticulously crafted in Italy, using sterling silver and 18k gold, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern design sensibilities.
