The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) is set to host two world-class jewellery events next month. The 11th Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem and Pearl Show will take place at AsiaWorld-Expo from March 2 to 6, showcasing raw materials for jewellery. Meanwhile, the 41st Hong Kong International Jewellery Show will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai from March 4 to 8, featuring stunning finished jewellery pieces. Together, these twin shows aim to connect exhibitors and buyers with global trade opportunities.
Sophia Chong, Deputy Executive Director of the HKTDC, highlighted the international appeal of the events. “This year, around 4,000 exhibitors from over 40 countries and regions will participate, with nearly 70% coming from outside Hong Kong,” she said. Exhibitors from Japan, Spain, French Polynesia, the UAE, Mexico, and Lebanon are expanding their presence. The shows are expected to attract over 110 buyer missions, solidifying Hong Kong’s role as a global jewellery hub.
Despite challenges in the global jewellery market, Hong Kong’s fine jewellery exports saw significant growth in 2024. Exports to the US rose by over 10%, while shipments to the EU, Middle East, and ASEAN increased by 6.5%, 3.8%, and 2.6%, respectively.
Global Participation and New Features
The twin shows will feature 38 pavilions representing regions and industries worldwide, including Mainland China, India, Japan, Italy, and the US. New participants include the Asia Jewelry Culture Design and Crafts Association, while returning groups like the Tanzanite Foundation and the International Colored Gemstone Association will also showcase their offerings.
To enhance the buyer experience, the HKTDC has introduced special measures for Muslim buyers, such as shuttle buses to local mosques, a list of Muslim-friendly hotels and restaurants, and guided tours arranged with the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
Spotlight on Creativity and Innovation
This year’s theme, Symphony of Sparkles, celebrates the artistry of gemstone carving. The Designer Jewellery Galleria will highlight intricate filigree inlay techniques, a nearly-lost craft recognized as part of China’s intangible cultural heritage. Notable exhibitors include Changzhou Yi’an Jewelry Co., Ltd, which won the 2019 Tiangong Awards for its 18K gold wheat ear designs.
Hong Kong-based companies like Austy Lee Company Limited and Zuri Jewelry Company Limited will debut creative collections, including a snake-shaped necklace for the Lunar New Year and a “Panda and Bamboo” series inspired by Hong Kong’s giant pandas.
A new addition to the International Jewellery Show is the Gold Jewellery Zone, showcasing innovative designs. Malaysian company CHL Innovation Industries Sdn Bhd will present affordable luxury gold jewellery, including a unique durian pendant.
Nurturing Future Talent
The HKTDC is also fostering new talent through initiatives like the International Jewellery Design Excellence (IJDE) Award and the 26th Hong Kong Jewellery Design Competition. Winners will be announced at the show, with their designs on display. Additionally, the new Young Jewellery Designer Arena will spotlight emerging designers, offering a platform for creativity and craftsmanship.
The twin jewellery shows promise to be a hub of innovation, collaboration, and global trade, reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as a leading jewellery destination.
