TEFAF Maastricht, one of the most prestigious art and antique fairs, will see significant changes in its contemporary high jewelry section this year. The fair, set to take place from March 15 to 20 at the MECC Maastricht convention center, will feature four new high jewelers, marking the largest shift in this area since 2016.
Two prominent jewelry houses, India’s Bhagat and Switzerland’s Boghossian, will not return to the fair this year. Both brands had previously treated the event as an extension of their private salons. For example, Viren Bhagat, the owner of the Indian jewelry brand, had restrictions in place at the fair since 2020, including no photographs of his diamond pieces, limited interviews, and only one photo of his collection released to the press each year. While Boghossian initially barred public photos during its first year at TEFAF in 2022, it gradually relaxed these rules in subsequent years. However, access to the Boghossian family remained restricted.
In their place, four new high jewelers will showcase their creations: Margot McKinney, Santi, Buccellati, and Feng J. These brands will join established names like Hemmerle, Otto Jakob, Anna Hu, Forms, and Van Cleef & Arpels, adding to the fair’s strong lineup.
TEFAF Maastricht will host 260 galleries and artists from around 20 countries, offering a wide array of art, design, and antiquities. While the fair is best known for its collection of Old Masters paintings, the inclusion of contemporary high jewelry houses adds diversity and appeal to collectors. For these jewelers, TEFAF Maastricht remains one of the few public events where they can connect with their target audience.
The fair will have two invitation-only preview days on March 13 and 14, before opening to the public from March 15.
