Shiels Jewellers is celebrating its 80th anniversary with a look back at its journey through a commemorative video showcasing ads from over the years. Founded in 1945 by Jack and Jeanne Shiels with just three employees at Adelaide’s Central Market Arcade, the small family-run store has grown into a well-known name across Australia.
In 1977, Albert Bensimon and his wife Nyra took over the business, driving its expansion into a national retail leader. Today, Shiels operates over 50 stores across the country and employs more than 600 staff members, continuing to thrive in a rapidly changing retail world.
Toby Bensimon, Director of Growth at Shiels, reflects on the company’s 80-year milestone: “Reaching 80 years in business is an incredible achievement, especially in today’s challenging retail environment. Shiels has evolved with our customers, offering jewellery that speaks to Australians at every stage of life—always at unbeatable prices.”
Known for its wide range of products, Shiels offers more than 15,000 jewellery items both online and in-store. Individual stores stock between 3,800 and 7,000 products, ensuring customers have access to an extensive selection.
Toby adds, “Our team of in-house experts searches the globe for the latest designs you won’t find anywhere else. While we oversee a large manufacturing base in Australia, our jewellery is also made in Europe, and we source lab-grown diamonds from Asia to offer a diverse, affordable range.”
With over 10,000 customers served monthly, Shiels’ commitment to quality, affordability, and innovation has established it as Australia’s top jeweller for engagement rings and fine jewellery.
