The Oscars red carpet this year will feature bold, eye-catching jewelry, with statement earrings, chunky necklaces, and rare natural diamonds taking center stage. Male stars are also expected to explore more creative ways to wear gems, according to jewelry expert Sally Morrison from De Beers.
“For the Oscars, it’s pretty much go big or go home,” Morrison, the U.S. natural diamonds lead at De Beers Group, said.
The process of selecting jewelry for the red carpet is a complex collaboration between jewelry companies, stylists, designers, and the celebrities themselves. Morrison explains that stylists often communicate their preferences, such as shapes, silhouettes, and color palettes, to help guide the choices. However, the final selections are often a surprise, with many pieces not revealed until the celebrities step onto the carpet.
“It’s a nerve-wracking time of year for us, but it’s also super exciting,” Morrison shared.
Statement earrings and bold necklaces are expected to dominate this year, including layered diamond necklaces like the one worn by Sarah Paulson at the Golden Globe Awards. Rough diamonds are also making a splash, with some necklaces incorporating green, brown, and yellow diamonds, as seen recently on Zoe Saldana.
Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet is known for pushing the boundaries of men’s jewelry, often sporting layered necklaces and innovative diamond designs. Morrison predicts that male stars will continue to experiment with more creative jewelry choices this year.
While some celebrities may stick to simpler, more traditional pieces, others are opting for rare, high-end diamonds. “This one is a little over 11 carats,” Morrison said, showing off a dazzling ring. “It’s D flawless, so it’s the rarest of the rare… I would expect to see some of these big, pure, beautiful natural diamonds on the carpet too.”
With a mix of classic and cutting-edge designs, the jewelry at this year’s Oscars promises to dazzle.
