Every successful business begins with an idea. For Klarisa Crespo, it started with a simple creative spark.
In 2016, Crespo found herself struggling to find the perfect accessory for a birthday party. “I just randomly went to Michaels, bought some pieces, and put a necklace together,” she recalled. That DIY moment sparked a passion for statement jewelry.
Nearly a decade later, Crespo has turned that passion into a thriving business called KC Chic Designs. But the journey wasn’t easy. Crespo balanced her full-time job as an educator with building her brand.
“I wanted to give up a few times,” she admitted. “But we kept going. The support from my school’s principal and teachers was incredible—they were my first customers, buying all the new designs.”
Crespo believes her experience as a teacher has been invaluable in running her business. “I run it like a classroom,” she said with a laugh.
Now, Crespo is taking her talents to one of the biggest stages in the world: the Oscars. Her jewelry will be gifted to Oscar-nominated actors and actresses, and she’ll have the opportunity to interact with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
“This is just the beginning,” Crespo said. “I want to expand my luxury collection and make high-end pieces affordable for everyone.”
Her designs draw inspiration from her upbringing in New York City and her love for the iconic series Sex and the City. This unique blend of influences, she says, is what makes her jewelry stand out.
Crespo’s advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is simple: “Stay authentic to yourself. Don’t compare yourself to others—do what you love.”
As she prepares to showcase her designs on a global stage, Crespo is excited for the spotlight and hopes her jewelry will shine as brightly as the stars wearing it.
This year’s Oscars will not only mark a milestone for Crespo but also serve as a platform to share her vision of accessible luxury with the world.
