One of Hong Kong’s largest jewelry exhibitions, the International Jewellery Show, is celebrating its 41st anniversary this week. The event highlights self-designed diamonds and natural gemstones, offering unique international craftsmanship that can’t be found elsewhere.
Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the exhibition runs from March 4 to 8. Sophia Chong, Deputy Executive of the Council, describes the event as a “one-stop jewelry sourcing platform” for buyers. It features a wide range of products, including colored diamonds and custom-made jewelry, with wholesale prices starting as low as $100 USD.
A World of Natural Gems
Mak, the founder of Unity, specializes in natural colored gemstones and diamonds. His pieces are sourced from the rough mines of South Africa and Russia, then crafted in India. “My brand offers a unique collection of fancy colors—pink, green, blue, and yellow. Everything is natural,” he says.
With 16 years of experience in the jewelry industry, Mak launched Unity in 2013. His personal favorite is the pink diamond, which he believes is perfect for rings and necklaces. “Pink diamonds are rare and exquisite,” he explains. Mak hopes the exhibition will attract more international clients who appreciate the beauty of natural gemstones.
Family Legacy Meets Modern Design
Natthapunnapa, representing the Dhevan Dara Gallery, brings her family’s 30-year-old jewelry business to the show. This marks her 19th year participating in the event, where she showcases self-designed gemstones from Thailand. “I’ve grown up in this business,” she says. “My sister also designs diamond jewelry.”
Balancing her roles as a lawyer and businesswoman, Natthapunnapa understands the importance of design in the competitive jewelry industry. “Some companies sell a hundred times more than us, but we focus on exploring new ideas and designs,” she explains. “Everyone has their own clients, and sometimes our clients overlap. It’s not a problem—it’s just part of the business.”
A Hub for Creativity and Connection
The International Jewellery Show provides a friendly and competitive environment at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Sellers and buyers can interact directly, exploring innovative designs and building connections. With its mix of affordability, creativity, and international craftsmanship, the event continues to be a key platform for the global jewelry industry.
